  1. Controller for the processing of personal data

The organisation responsible for the processing of personal data is Filosofian ja elämänkatsomustiedon opettajat Ry (www.feto.fi). The contact person for the processing described in this notice is coordinator Helmi Halonen, bspee.international@gmail.com.

2. Purpose of processing personal data

Personal data is processed for the purpose of organising the essay event. The legal basis for processing is consent that can be withdrawn at any time.

Personal data is confidential and processed only by the event coordinator. All essays are anonymised on submission before being sent out to reviewers, and only the identities of participants who are awarded medals or honorary mentions are revealed.

3. Categories of personal data

We process the following data:

  • Names and email addresses of teachers from participating schools, and
  • Names, schools and nationalities of participating students.

4. Sources of personal data

Data is submitted by the teachers of participating schools.

5. Duration of processing and retaining personal data

Data  is retained for the duration of the essay event and destroyed immediately afterwards, with the exception of:

  • Names and email addresses of teachers, which are retained for informing about the event in following years, and
  • Names, schools and nationalities of participants who are awarded medals or honorary mentions, which are published on the event website.

6. Disclosure to third parties

Personal data is not disclosed to third parties.

7. Transfers of personal data to countries outside the EU/European Economic Area

No personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area.

8. Rights of Data Subjects

The contact person in matters concerning the rights of the participant is the person mentioned in section 1 of this notice.

Right to withdraw consent

You have the right to withdraw your consent to data processing at any time. This includes the right of teachers to be removed from the mailing list, as well as the right of participants to have their name removed from the website. In case of withdrawal of consent, we will destroy all data we hold on you immediately. The withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before the withdrawal.

Right to access

You have the right to know whether we process your personal data and what data we process about you. You also have the right to request for the access to that data.

Right to rectification

You have the right to request rectification of inaccurate personal data concerning you, and to have incomplete personal data completed.

Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about the processing of your personal data. You also have a legal right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Ombudsman’s Office if you think your personal data has been processed in violation of applicable data protection laws.
